Step 1: Inspect the Machine and Gather Your Materials

Before you start any packaging run, walk around the entire machine and look for obvious damage, loose parts, or residue from previous use. Check that the heat shrink film roll is secure in its holder and that the film feeds smoothly through the guides without twisting or bunching. Make sure the heating chamber is clean and free of plastic buildup or debris that could damage your product or create uneven shrinking.

Gather all the materials you will need: your products ready for packaging, the correct gauge and width of shrink film for your item size, and any labels or inserts that go inside the package. Have a clean work surface nearby, and ensure your facility's temperature and humidity are stable. Step 2: Load and Align the Shrink Film

Open the film roll holder and insert your shrink film roll, ensuring it sits evenly on both spindles. Pull the film forward gently until it reaches the heat sealing station, then close the upper and lower sealing plates to hold it in place. Step 3: Set Temperature, Speed, and Dwell Time

Every type of shrink film has an optimal heat range. Read your film manufacturer's instructions to find the recommended temperature, usually between 200 and 280 degrees Fahrenheit depending on the material. Enter this temperature into the machine's control panel and allow 10 to 15 minutes for the heating element to reach the set point. You will see an indicator light or digital display showing when the machine is ready.

Next, set the conveyor speed. This controls how fast your product moves through the heating tunnel. Start at a slow speed, around 10 to 15 feet per minute, and increase it gradually as you run test pieces. Set the dwell time, which is the number of seconds the film stays in contact with the sealing jaws, to around 0.8 to 1.2 seconds. Run a sample package through without product first to verify that the seal looks clean and even. If the seal is weak or incomplete, increase the dwell time or temperature slightly and test again.

Once your settings are locked in, place your first product onto the conveyor belt or into the feed station, depending on your machine type. Position it so that the film will wrap around all sides evenly. For rectangular items, center it lengthwise. As the product enters the heating chamber, watch it move through. The film should shrink smoothly around the edges without wrinkles, bubbles, or thin spots. If you see problems, stop the machine and inspect the seal quality before running more products. Check every fifth or tenth package during a long run to catch drift early. Keep the heating chamber clear of fallen film scraps or product debris.
